Water
Condat has invested in the construction of a biological water treatment plant for processingthe effluent from its papermaking activities. The plant, which was commissioned in the middle of 2003 and supplements the physicochemical plant that had already been in use for several years, has driven COD (chemical oxygen demand) waste down to a seventh and BOD (biological oxygen demand) to a twentieth of their previous levels, putting Condat well within the permissible legal limits stipulated by the local authorities.

Condat has also invested in reducing its specific clear water consumption with the result that all the water used for cooling purposes throughout the manufacturing process is now recycled. The recycling system is used in conjunction with a heat exchanger that cools the effluent from the papermaking process and keeps the temperature of the discharge into the river at less than 30°C.
