| | | March 2006:
Every year Condat has to cope with more than one hundred disruptions to the electrical power services provided by RTE (Réseau de Transport d’Electricité), 10% of these incidents bringing production at its 540,000 tonne capacity coated paper plant to a halt.
The phenomenon is recurrent because of the enormous vulnerability of the electrical power supply system in this region of Dordogne. The most recent incident occurred on 11 January 2006 and halted all production at Condat for some 12 hours. Over the last 4 years, incidents of this nature have cost Condat more than 1 million euros in lost production.

RTE has carried out a number of technical studies in a bid to find ways of improving its network but so far these have remained a dead letter.
Topics addressed:
1. Upgrading the power supply lines. The role of the electricity network manager is to provide a public service in order to ensure the competitiveness of the national economy and the balanced development of the country. Public services are funded from the public purse in general, and by Condat, in particular, to the tune of 1.5 million euros per year. If public electricity services cannot be guaranteed in rural areas of the Dordogne, then what purpose does this money serve.
